sql server licencing for demonstration purpose

  • Hi,

If I would like to demonstrate my software that runs off sql server 2008 r2 what edition of sql server would I need?

If I had multiple demonstrators would I need multiple licences?

Documentation on this would be great but ill take any advise.

  • I would think Developer would be enough, but I'm not a licensing expert.

  • You can also for free use an evaluation license, according to MICROSOFT EVALUATION SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS:

•You may install and use any number of copies of the software on your devices. You may use the software only to demonstrate and internally evaluate it.

  • yeah I don't think evaluation will suit - it expires and we needs something permanent.

  • Developer Edition will do the trick.

I'm not sure if you can do multiple installs from a single copy but individual copies are relatively cheap. About 6 months ago I got SQL Server 2012 - Developer Edition from Amazon for $50.00. It includes everything you would need (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) to demonstrate any solutions you create.

    +1

It's basically Enterprise edition, so you can test it all out.
