Hi all hope you can help.
I'm confused about the number of user licenses I need to purchase for SQL Server.
My company has a web application, the application is written in asp on iis using a sql server 2000 database (msde at this time.) We are upgrading to SQL Server standard edition in the near future as the application is proving to be very popular!
The application connects to SQL Server using the same sql user id, with individual users being managed internally through SQL Server user tables, tblUsers etc.
We envisage up to 100 concurrent users, so how many licenses do we need to purchase.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Many Thanks

If it's a web based ap that's open to the internet then you'll need to use the per processor licensing model rather than per seat or server.

Mike is correct. Here's the SQL Server licensing site:

The document on this page is the "guru's guide to SQL Licensing" ... but as the guys have already said, if u have an internet facing application that's using SQL Server (in ANY WAY ... see multiplexing in that document!), then Per Processor licensing is required!

You should look into Microsoft's SPLA licensing. You do not actually purchase the license, you rent it on a monthly basis.
We are using this in our datacenter for hosted apps. If anyone is interested, we can provide SQL hosting services using this license model.
