Hi, I have to install SQL SERVER 2005 and was wondering if someone could give me some advice about what partition or disk I should install the data and log files.
I have the following Raid SCSI Disk Drives
Disk 0 - 33 Gigabytes
C - 12 Gigs - 8.24 Free
E - 21 Gigs - 21 Free - Extended Partition
Disk 1
D - 136.5 Gigs - 136 Gigs Free
The company has a tape drive back up system in place
Thanks for any advice

You don't say what RAID level you are running at. Generally I try to put my data on a RAID 5 and put the log on a RAID 1 (Mirrored) drive.

Thanks for the reply allen, can you tell me, how do I find out what Raid level I'm running at?

Hi - I tried to reply but my post got lost somewhere.
Briefly 2 ways of implementing RAID. Hardware & Sioftware. Software through NTFS & Disk Manager - slowest because it competes on the OS.
Harware uses a RAID card or similar - configured through a setup utlity. See if you have any thing under Programs by Adaptec or the like or your box manufacturer.

Thank you for the reply allen,
I'm not back in that office for a few days, but I remember its a Dell PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller, so would that be software?

I think you mean Hardware - I'ts got a RAID card. Config of the RAID card is probably done through a software app (look under Dell in Program Files) but the actual striping of the data is controlled by some sort of BIOS/Firmware on the card.
