SQL Server Installation

  • Hi All,

We have OS in C: drive and SQL Server was installed in D: drive, if Os got corrupted and need to reinstall the OS....here do we need to install the SQL server again or is there any way to get back the previous installation ?

    Thank You.

  • I'm going to say yes. Even if C: and D: are separate physical drives instead of logical drive partitions on the same drive, SQL Server puts registry keys into the OS that are required for it to run.

Now, if you're just restoring the whole OS from a backup or a ghost copy, maybe not. But if you're installing the OS from scratch, best plan on re-installing everything.

EDIT: You might also check this one on the Microsoft forums just to be sure.

  • Brandie is 100% correct. You'll need to reinstall SQL Server.
