Hello,
The D drive on the SQL server machine ( version 2008 ) has failed and therefore the sqlserver service is not running.
( sql server executable was installed on D drive : D:\program files\MSSqlserver)
We have wiped reconfigured the drive and it is now clean and empty.
All the files on this drive gets backed up everynight on some other location and if we copy all the backup files
to this drive, will the sqlserver will start without any problems?
or we need to reinstall the software again on the D drive
Please let me know
Thanks

Generally, when you install software, the "hidden" stuff is what goes into the registry. If the D: drive didn't contain the operating system, then as long as the partition size is the same as before and the drive gets a complete restore, including any hidden or system files, I would expect a good result. Of course, the only way to find out is to try it.

So... did the restore work ? It's usually considered good forum etiquette to post back with details on what the solution was and whether any help received was useful.
