GameSpy Industries (www.gamespy.com) is the leading online entertainment and technology company that delivers live multiplayer gaming and editorial content to
consumers worldwide, and provides the infrastructure and technology for online gaming and digital distribution to the growing games industry. We are currently seeking a DBA for our Irvine, CA headquarters.
SUMMARY
Provides application level, administrative, and logistical support for MS SQL and other relational databases as necessary. Collects data and assists in the creation of the preliminary logical database architectures. Provides assistance to the development staff and performs database maintenance support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
- Assists with the logical and physical database design, implementation, database
maintenance and performance issues.
- Assists with the development and maintenance of standards and procedures, and
guidelines for accessing corporate databases by the development staff and end-users.
- Gathers initial database design criteria and assists with the development of the model.
- Assists in the preparation of disk management reports.
- Participates in data modeling and access methods.
- Maintains data dictionary information, data key word lists, forms, etc.
- Controls and coordinate maintenance of the data dictionary contents.
- Provides on-call support for database problems.
- Troubleshoots and performs necessary tuning to enhance performance.
- Performs special projects and duties as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
3-5 years related experience as a database administrator in an internet company
Logical and physical database design experience
Data modeling and performance tuning experience
Training in project management and /or business analysis
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

In this new age of technology you might be able to expand your list of canadates if you allowed for remote administration. For example. I live in Ohio but I am building and supporting a database in Leeds England. I am just passing on this information as a way to help you.

I have just started a remote DBA project and it is working out very well.
BTW and a little off topic, what connection methods are you guys using(Citrix, dail-up, VPN ) and why?
