We have SQL SERVER 2008 SP1 failover cluster (64 bit)ON hp proliant dl380 g7 san with 256gb ram and 48 core . We are trying to load the conversion data using xml file through a cots productwhich does all the ETL. Can some one suggest the server and the database level configuration changes to be done to improve the performance ?????

Don't use XML.
I'm not the expert in that domain but a simple csv file with bulk insert usually flies the data in. Everytime I,ve been near xml it's always been slow, even on low volumes.
For specific configs I'll just step out of this thread, nothing useful to contribute.
