SQL Server Connectivity

  • Hi !,

I am a little new to computers and SQL and need help.I posted some time ago , but looks like the topic became too old ! I have a Windows 2000 Server OS and have installed SQL Server 7 on it.

SQL Server works fine...I can access my database , open Query Analyser and Enterprise Manager. But when I try to run my software after giving the DSN details , it gives me a "cannot connect to SQL" error.

Earlier , I was able to run my application , and it would connect to SQL as well , but gave me an "msadox.dll is old" error. After I downloaded and installed the version 8 , that problem was solved , but now am unable to connect.

I am on a standalone machine , not in a network. Can someone help please ?:(

  • [font="Verdana"]Do you have MDAC 2.7 (Microsot Data Access Component) or later version installed on machine. If no, install it and try again.

    Let us know.

  • I had MDAC version 2.6 on the system and my exe waould not open giving me a related error. So I installed MDAC version 2.8 . Right after I did that , I found that I did not get an error pointing to old version of msadox.dll anymore , instead I got a connectivity error.

Does installing this file cause any problems ? Am I supposed to install anything else with MDAC 2.8 ?

Thanks in advance for any help. I am at my wits end with this !

  • Have you verified your DSN by clicking the Test button? Have you turned on Audit for Failures with respect to SQL Server? If so, are you seeing an audit failure?

  • Thanks Brian, I will look through the Audit feature and let you know
