I am looking at several SQL Server backup softwares to backup SQL Server 2000/2005 on Windows 2003 servers. My company uses TSM to perform nightly file system backups currently. Several of the products I am looking at can backup databases directly to TSM. What are your opinions for or against backing up databases directly to TSM. I know for one, it is much slower to restore from TSM. Do any of you have any other technical reasons for or against TSM? Thanks for any input.

Nope, don't do it. TSM will have a problem on the day you need to restore a database because someone (perhaps you) deleted a table by forgetting the WHERE clause.
Back up to disk, preferably with a compression software (Red Gate, Quest, Idera, etc) and then let TSM grab to tape.

Thanks for your quick response, I am looking for reasons for or against it and that seems like a pretty good reason against TSM.
