SQL Server alias vs host name

    I'm trying to assist with a performance issue when using an alias versus a host name.  Unfortunately, I don't know too much on how to debug this.

    What are some ways that I can look into this?

    What's the issue? There shouldn't be much of a difference, or really any, once you're connected. The alias and hostname resolve to an IP+port for the eventual communication.
