sql server agent problem

  I can not start the sql server agent which is required for db maintenance plans etc... If I right click agent click start I get error message error 5 : access denied occurred while performing this ervice operation on SQL Server agent service.

  If I right click agent to view properties I can not check whether the service startup acoount in general tab is for system account or domain account, because these properties are dimmed out.

  My login is a member of a group which belongs to the system administrators fixed server role.

  the problem is that to perform this action you need to be belong to windows administrators.
