Hi,
when I click the button "start" in SQL Server Agent services, error message appears. Below is the error message
"1% is not a valid win32 application"
When I restart the Server, and do it again, same error appears.
Help!....my last option will be "re install" the SQL server 2000.
thanks in advance.

Where did you choose "Start"? in the Enterprise Manager? I dunno if this can help but try it anyways who knows maybe this make your server agent starts..
START>SETTING>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOL>SERVICES>Find SQLSERVERAGENT>Right Click then choose start
Hope that helps....

Yes, I clicked start in Enterprise Manager. I also tried in SQL Server Service Manager (the one in the taskbar).
Actually Sir, I also tried that in SERVICES but it is still not able to start.

I find the cause of error.....the Master was corrupted....What I did was..
1. Copy the backup of *Master
2. Run C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\rebuilm.exe then point to the *Master where it located.
that's it....SQL services is now ON
thanks for your time...

Hi, I saw the same issue where agent would not start. Error in event log saying 'Not a valid win32 application'.
FIX:
There may be a file in the root drive (or SQL installation drive) called 'program'. Rename or delete it and the service should restart. Might be relate to SP4 install.
cheers

Thanks Padraig, that worked a treat. I reckon you might be on to something with the SP4 upgrade too. Cheers, Oliver
