I have a dual processor DELL server (it says 2 processors when it boots) and yet when I look in the Performance Monitor under processors 4 are listed - and it displays data for all 4!
The properites tab for the db instance allows you to select from 4 processors for symmetric processing.
We have been running the DB for 2 1/2 years and I have never seen this before.
We have virus defs from Symantec dated 8/31/2005 and have run multiple scans that turn up nothing.
Reboots have no effect.
Has anyone ever seen/heard of this?

What processors are there in your Dell system?
It could be hyperthreading (like Pentium 4 does)

Intel Xeon 2.4GHz/512K cache. The Dell box is a PowerEdge 2600.

The xeons have the hyperthreading-feature. Each processor presents itself as a dual-processor to the operating system.
Mostly an on/off switch is provided in the bios.
An article about hyperthreading:

And as an aside, sql server will only use 2 and licensing (if you are using cpu based) only requires 2.

following on, SQL 2000 SP3a does recognise hyperthreading and uses "4" cpus but only requires 2 CPu licenses
