Hi
We are planning to upgrade our SQL Server 2014 Ent edition to 2022 Standard and i want to test Basic Availability Groups future.
Is there a free evaluation version for SQL Server 2022 Standard edition?
At least i could not find one
Thank You

Developer edition is the best "free" one you're going to get.

Grant,
Thank you for reply, but Basic availability groups are only supported for Standard Edition servers.

Then you have to get a license to run Standard.

or use MSDN licensing - but this has a whole bunch of other implications for everyone that accesses the server with it.

If you do decide to go to SQL 2022 Std then you will have to do a migration, not an upgrade. There is no capability in SQL Server to upgrade from Enterprise edition to Standard edition.
Personally I think the AG feature of Enterprise Edition is worth the extra cost of the license. Plus you get online reorg and a load of other smarts thrown in. If you are also paying for whatever SA is now called it gives you Power BI free for in-house use.
At my last place we set up SQL clusters at two locations linked by a distributed AG. This gave us local resilience via a cluster failover, and BCO resilience via the dAG failover plus manually changing one DNS alias. Having the necessary plumbing built into the product helped make what could have been a complex process quite easy.
