Error Message attempting to download data from my SQL Server 2017 dev edition.
0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.
I've tried so many suggestions and it's probably because I'm not a certificate expert.
So. Two questions.
As a person with limited DBA experience with advanced settings, how do I resolve this
What I have tried:
All suggestions found with no luck.
SO
If I reinstall the same version of SQL Server, will certificates automatically be created?

In terms of your question, it doesn't quite make sense what "download data from dev edition" means. This isn't terminology nor a process that I would normally use. Usually a client connects and queries data from a tool like SSMS or ADS. If you try that, what happens? What is the actual error?

OK.
I have a laptop where I have sql server 2017 dev version installed, along with office 365. Other software on the laptop includes Tableau, powerbi, etc.
My sql server has a number of databases on it. I use excel, powerbi, tableau, etc. to create reports, spreadsheets, dashboards. I connect to each to the databases in sql server. If you've used excel, you can easily connect to your database using it, as long as you have proper permissions. Same goes with powerbi, tableau, etc.
I have proper permissions since it's everythings on my lap top and up to about a month ago, i was able to connect to the databases easily, no errors. For example I have a powerbi dashboard connected to one of the databases, and whenever i want to update powerbi i refresh the dashboard. new data is refreshed into power bi.
Now when i refresh my dashboard the error shows the following
Microsoft SQL: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)
This is what I'm asking about. I have seen plenty of ideas out there to fix it, but the ones I've tried have failed. Also, I'm not even close to be an expert at adding/modifying/creating certificates and a little wary of doing something I'm not familiar with that could potentially cause more harm than good.
Which is why i was thinking that if I uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server 2017 dev, could it fix the certificate errors by default?
I was hoping to fix it first, but i can't currently import/update data to SQL Server from excel , powerbi, etc. due to this error.

Likely you have a connection error, which might be due to a connection setting change from Power BI. I assume you are able to connect from SSMS.
From Power BI, is this Power BI Desktop? Or the Power BI online service? Or an SSRS report server? You want to trust the server certificate or turn off the need to encrypt the connection.

I appreciate this is frustrating, but we don't know your environment or what you've tried. If you have tried something, please let us know what hasn't worked. This isn't likely a certificate error, but more a client connection error.
