Hey,
I have Windows 10 running SQL Server Express 64-bit and I purchased SQL Server 2016 Standard (genuine) key. I want to upgrade and I'm having difficulty figuring out how to do so. Could you direct me to the best how to or explain the steps?

I don't believe you can upgrade Express to Standard. I think you need to:

You can follow instructions from this link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/upgrade-to-a-different-edition-of-sql-server-setup?view=sql-server-2017
This procedure should work for 2016 as well
