Good question Steve, but the reference supplied specifically states that Transparent Data Encryption is not available on Standard Edition.

hmm - TDE is not SE but EE.

According to the official resource it's indeed Enterprise only.

"Transparent data encryption" remains an Enterprise Edition Feature and isn't available on Standard Edition

Yep, many have already pointed out the error. Wishful thinking, but they have to leave something for EE other than CPU and memory limitations.

I confused TDE with 'Always Encrypted' and got it 'right'.
