SQL Server 2012 Licensing on Individual VM's

  • If I'm licensing Individual VM with 8 cores, And I install 2 named intances do I need an 16 Licenses?

  • I would take any and all licensing questions direct to Microsoft. Never trust any type of licensing answer you get from some nameless, faceless individual on the internet.

Ha! I'm probably near the bottom of people to trust on that type of question. I never look at the licensing. Silly stuff changes all the time anyway.

  • As far as I know the licensing is per processor/core in the server. Not the number of instances.

I should check this myself. I have several servers with three instances set up for development and testing.
