Hi
I'm very new to our Azure cloud SQL Server 2012(Standard Ed) instances in the cloud. I have regular SQL Server Backups for the databases, full, diffs, and logs. I'm having problems with Azure OS backups breaking my backup chains -- it seems like the OS backup does a full backup of the databases. Does anyone know of any advice or any suggested websites to review?
Thanks
Kathy

That's not something I've normally seen. Ever. I'll see if I can track someone down that knows what this might be. You've eliminated any other third party backup from within your environment?

Are you seeing messages in the errorlog file about IO Frozen and IO Thawed?

This isn't something I've done, but according to Joey D'Antoni, there's a chance that someone has enabled automatic backups at the VM level, including SQL Server. So it's doing backups for you. You can turn this back off on the VM. I don't have the details.

Yep, that was my thought. Hence the question.

Ah. I really didn't have a clue. That's why I went to people who know more than I do.

Yes I have eliminated the possibility of a third party backup tool. I have found that the Azure OS backup is the culprit. I just have to figure out how it is supposed to work.

I am meeting with the server guys this week to figure out how they are doing their backups to try and get this resolved.
