sql server 2008 versus sql server 2005

  • I have a couple the questions to ask about sql server 2005 versus sql server 2008 since I am new to sql server. (My small company will be using sql sever 2008 within the next month or two:

    1. Can I use the SSIS manager 2005 on the sql server 2008 database?

    2. Can I use the SSIS manager 2008 on a sql server 2005 database?

    3. I have heard about a CTE being a new feature in sql server 2005. Can you point me to a URL where a CTE can be used with alot of joins?

    4. What are the other new sql features in sql server 2005 and links as references for these new features?

    5. What are the other new sql features in sql server 2008 and links as references for these new features?

    6. Between sql server 2005 and sql server 2008, are there sql statements that are deprecated (Not valid any more)? If so what are the deprecated features?

  • 3. I have heard about a CTE being a new feature in sql server 2005. Can you point me to a URL where a CTE can be used with alot of joins?

Have you attempted to read Books On Line (BOL - the help file) for SQL 2005?

    If not go to

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

and input what you are seeking information about for either 2005 or 2008. For example input "sql 2008 new features" - you will find a great deal to read and assist you.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
