Hi,
I need to instal/set up SQL Server 2008 and I would like to know what I should be checking in order to set up properly. I work with 2005 and 2000. I would like to migrate my databases from 2000 and 2005 to 2008.
All my companies that I worked, all servers were sat already, I only managed databases,so I don't have experience doing it.
Can someone please help me.
Thank you

The best step is upgrade advisor.
Ideally you'd have a way to rerun all the queries from the app to the new server.
sub-ideally you can run a trace for replay.
Of course you need to rescript the logins and move to the new server. Maintenance plans, jobs, ssis, reports...

You need the specs for the new server?
How can I possibly know that?
What do you use now?
What are you consolidating?
What's the planned growth usage of the db(s).
Do you ahve any mergers comming on?
Do you have any new applications, reporting being added?
What's the budget?
What's the DR plan?
