  • I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 on my machine.

It hasn't had a service pack yet

    (2) Does 2008 R2 share the same set of Service Packs with MS SQL 2008 ?

Nope. No more than SQL 2008 sharing service packs with SQL 2005. They are different versions of the product.

  • Not 2005, I asked : does SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 share the same set of service pack

  • And my answer was that they do not share service packs, no more than 2005 and 2008 share service packs.

Whenever a new CU is released the KB article is updated. MS has a KB article for each version and SP of SQL Server so you can track the CUs they release.
