Can you extend the grace period for activation on sql server 2008 R2 evaluation edition.One of our system is going to expire next week and management are dragging their heels signing off on the purchase of sql.

I didn't really find evidence that you can extend the trial period.
You can however turn back your system clock:

yes it is a production server. I been on management's case for several months about buying a licence.

after about 5 months the boss signed off on licencing for sql 2008 R2 last week. Should be able to install the licence for expiry date next Saturday!

There is a way to get a new grace period...
1) Ensure all your user databases are not on the system drive
2) Script out everything you might need from your system databases
3) Reformat your system drive
4) Install a new copy of Windows and SQL Server
5) Attach all your user databases
6) Script back in to your system databases everything you did in 2)
IMHO paying the money for a license is less work and less risk.
