1. Self-service BI with Project Gemini

2. Support for 256 logical processors

3. SQL Server Express has been increased from 4 GB to 10 GB.

But a quick question - if Multi-Server Administration was a new feature in SQL Server 2008 R2, then why is there an article about Multuiserver Administration in Books Online for SQL Server 2000? See this link.

I got it right, but I agree with you about "Multuiserver Administration", maybe it's new from Visual Studio????

Among the new features included in SQL Server 2008 R2’s Management Studio application is the SQL Server Utility, which enables administrators to manage and monitor multiple database applications and server instances from a central interface called a Utility Control Point (UCP). I used the SQL Server Utility to group a pair of Server 2008 R2 instances together and track utilization and policy information for the instances from the Management Studio’s Utility Explorer interface.

I don't agree with the answer. Multiserver administration is available with sql 2008, unless I'm missing something.

I knew 2 of them were new, so with radio buttons the only choice was all of the above. It would have been tougher with check boxes. Thanks.

Yeah, that BOL article is misleading, I would argue that PowerPivot is completely unrelated to SQL Server 2008 R2, it depends on Excel 2010 and is a separate web download into that tool, you can use that without using SQL Server at all. Was pretty sure the Multiserver admin was already there too, but that's not my strong suit.

Yeah, I see that point. I got it right because we are planning on using the new feature -- he was talking about the control points, the central server management features new to R2. The term chosen was confusing.

I agree, Multi Server administration was available pre-2008 r2. However, what is new is the SQL Server Utility for managing performance data and management policies.

Multi-server admin was added in 2008 and is technically NOT a SQL Server feature but an SSMS feature.
