I just down loaded the SQL Server 2008 evaluation version yesterday (File name: SQLFULL_X86_ENU) to install on my Windows 7 Professional desktop.
I ran the executable which unpact the files. I then ran the Setup app as the Administrator. The is the Enterprise Evaluation. When it ran through the installation rules the only warning I got was for my Fire Wall. I added the port 1433 to my Fire Wall to allow access. I only added functionality for the DB Engine and the client tools. I created a named instance calle SQLDEV.
I used the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Account for the service account. Should I use something different? I selected Mix Authenitcations. And Added the my local Windows account as an adminstrator to CRHA-ITCONTRACTOR. It ran through the install fine it looks like.
Then I get the report that everything installed except the database engine. I have attached the summary text from the install. I am also rebooting. Now. Any help would be great.

This link is for R2, but I am pretty sure it is the same. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.105).aspx
Only the Express, Standard and Developer editions are officially supported on Win7. The Developer edition is supposed to be the same as Enterprise So I am not sure why it is different.
I run Developer on my Win7 64-bit machine and it works great.

The issue is not with will Enterprise run on Windows 7, it's whether Microsoft wants to support it on Windows 7.

Will there be any issues if I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed already. I am downloading the 2008 Developer evaluation and it about 3GB does that sound right?

I'm not sure about the size, but different versions of SQL can co-exist of the same machine without problems.
