I have SQL Server 2005 installed on Windows 2003 Server. Later I also installed SQL Server 2000. Now I downloaded SQL Server 2008 June 2007 CTP, when I tried to install this, it says "Setup has detected one or more instances of SQL server 2000 on the computer where you are installing SQL Server Katmai. SQL Server Katmai installation is not supported side-by-side with SQL Server 2000. You must either install SQL Server Katmai on a different computer or uninstall SQL Server 2000 before installing SQL Server Katmai."
THen I uninstalled only SQL SErver 2000, still it gives the same error while trying to install SQL Server 2008 June 2007 CTP.
Please give me some suggestions or solutions for my problem.
Thanks in advance,
Ravi.
Regards,
Ravi.

Ravi, in the release notes it states that you may have to manually removed the registry entry. Check the release notes/known issues for details. ...
[EDIT] From the release notes: To work around this issue, manually remove the registry key at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80, and then re-run SQL Server 2008 June CTP Setup.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your response, it worked well. Now, I have different problem. I installed Katmai on my PC. After installing when I see All Programs --> MS SQL Server code name Katmai --> Configuration Tools --> SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting, SQL Server Surface Area Configuration, Reporting Services Configuration are only installed.
Why is the installation half done?
Any suggestions, thanks in advance.
Ravi.

Ravi.

I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think the SSMS will install if 2005 SSMS is already on the machine. I believe, you need to uninstall 2005 SSMS and then reinstall 2008 to get the client tools to appear.

I've found Virtual Machines (VM's) are perfect for just this situation. Microsoft's desktop version is now free.

Hey the idea is 100% helpful and got the work done.
Sadly has already uninstallled visual studio 2005 and sql server 2000 and sql server 20005 (all components).
First I tried the microsoft forum to get some help for the same matter, but no one did answer.
Thank you very much.
