I'm not convinced this is a problem with SQL Server but when I try to install SQL Server 2008 onto a Windows 2008 R2 server the installation fails to start.
I get the following error in the event viewer setup log:
"The Windows update could not be installed because of an error: 2149842974"
The Server is a VM on VMware vSphere.
After a quick google saerch I found this post
But I don't think that is my problem. Anybody seen this before or got any suggestions?

I think I have it fixed, it looks like the install was trying to create to temporary file on the D:\ drive which is my vCD/vDVD which had the ISO attched and as such had no free space on it. I copied the setup files to a disk on the server and the install fired up and installed correctly.
Its a bit weird and I don't think it behaved this way when I have installed 2008 previously but it has gotten around the problem.
