Hello everyone,
This issue must have been discussed countless times on forums but it seems to me that I cannot break the loop I am in.
We have a SQL 2008 clustered instance on Server 2008R2 running on three nodes. I am trying to install another named instance of SQL server 2008.During installation I got the following message:
The cluster resource 'SQL Server (named instance name)' could not be brought online. Error: The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one or more provided resources.
Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong?
Thank you very much.

have you verified that the new disk resources you intend to use for the new instance online and offline properly through the cluster management console?
Also check the new IP address and virtual network name are unique!
What version of the Windows operating system are you using?

As Perry referenced, check that the cluster resources are coming online. I had this happen where the network name wouldn't come online because the login I was using didn't have permission to write to Active Directory. The System Admin made the necessary entry, but I still had to remove the node and uninstall/reinstall.

Hello Perry,
Sorry about the delay.
I have validated the cluster config prior to running adding a new SQL Instance to the cluster.
The first (default instance of SQL) is fine. I installed and it fails over as intended. I feel like I have entered a loop that it is difficult to escape from.
To answer your question SSC-Enthusiastic. All resources are fine. MSDTS, cluster disks, Network Name, etc.
Do you have any suggestions gents?
Kind Regards,
