SQL Server 2008 Express: The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication

  • On the server computer, I have installed SQL Server 2008 Express, I set the firewall rules for TCP and UDP port, I configured SQL Server in Mixed Authentication Mode. I set SQL Server for remote connections. I enabled TCP/IP in the list of Protocols and and set the TCP/IP port to 1433.

On the client computer, I have installed SQL Server client connectivity SDK.

On the client computer with Windows XP, all works fine, I succeeded to connect to the SQL Server from my server computer.

On the client with Windows 7, when I try to connect to SQL Server through SSMS, the SQL Server instance was detected, but when I try to connect, I received the following message:

"Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452)."

On this computer, the user has admin rights. I also try with firewall disabled. Same message.

In the network, I don't have a domain, the computers are all in the same workgroup.

Please, I need your help, I don't know what I do.

  • You are trying to connect using Windows or SQL Server authentication?

    With Thanks,

    Satnam

  • With Windows authentication. On Windows XP all works fine.
