SQL Server 2008 Enterprise

  • Hi all,

I am trying to have my corporate installation team install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. He pushed it through network and the log says it is installed but the files and software is not there. Is SQL Server 2005 Uninstall Required?

    thnx in advance!

  • Assuming you give 2008 a different instance name, no you don't need to uninstall 2005. They run side-by-side just fine. Not that I'd run them side-by-side on a production server.

  • Hi

I would only be installing on to my PC. I have not been able to do have simultaneous installs of SQL Server Management Studio 2005 and SSMS 2008 on my PC (XP). Are there any requirements i have missed.

  • I honestly couldn't tell you. I've installed both to my laptop, also running XP. I've installed 2000, 2005 and 2008 to my desktop with no issues, problems, erorrs, or extra steps. Whatsoever.

All I can say is, make sure you're creating a new instance for each one. Other than that, the installs have all gone pretty flawlessly.

  • Grant,

Did you use any specific installation of SSMS 2008? The install is being pushed with a network batch file. Is there anything specific I will have to look at for this situation.

    Thanks,

    S

  • I just installed it from a network share. Nothing special. I'm not sure if you'd have something different or not. Since it's automated, it could be the automation is incorrect. The install is really straight-forward.

  • Yes that is what we are in discussion about. We are leaning towards it being either the install package or some network config. I will update as i find out.

    Thanks
