if you already have SQL2008SP2 with some Cumulative Update Pack (CUP) you should not apply SP3
but now that MS have released the first CUP to SP3, you are good to go !
http://sqlblog.com/blogs/aaron_bertrand/archive/2011/10/18/cumulative-update-1-for-sql-server-2008-
sp3-is-available.aspx
so the list needs to add 10.00.5766 entry

Hi Steve,
Very nice article. Thanks for sharing 🙂
FYI:
I have seen other builds like Build 10.00.2781, Build 10.00.2773, Build 10.00.2770 etc in Microsoft website below.

Hi Steve,
The link for SP2 CU5 is wrong (it links to SP2 CU6). The correct link should be http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2555408
Thanks,
Jeffrey

Microsoft SQL Server Release Services
has missed the last release of a Cumulative Update for both SQL 2008 R2 (Dec) and SQL 2008 (this month). Anyone know if they're going to (or have) officially stopped posting notification of hotfixes there?

Seems that we need to update the list so seriously, Steve make someone Admin for incoming updates of the SQL Server!

Steve's done fine (he was my backup). Microsoft is the one that has dropped the ball.

Mike, can you please correct the link of SP2 CU5, which points to SP2 CU6?

Sorry, I don't have anything to do with it, other than being a satisfied user. 🙂

Just a quick thanks. These updates are always very useful for those of us who don't have time to keep up... Another valuable service of your site!

Is there a similar build list for SQL Server 2008R2?
March 27, 2012 at 2:51 am
Yes! Just search for "SQL Server 2008 Build" in the main SSC Search box and you'll see both the 2008 and 2008 R2 listed 😀

Hi,
Thanks for list it is indeed very useful.
I would have one suggestion here in this list if we can add SQL Server CTP build numbers also in it would be very help full to isolate CTP version.
Best Regards,
Nirav

The build list for SQL 2008 has a problem. The top 3 entries for it are incorrect:
10.00.5829 2799883 Cumulative update package 9 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 Three fixes for the database engine.
10.00.5794 2771833 Cumulative update package 8 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 Nine fixes included in this update.
10.00.5788 2738350 Cumulative update package 7 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 11 fixes.
It should be:
10.00.5829 2799883 Cumulative update package 9 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 Three fixes for the database engine.
10.00.5828 2771833 Cumulative update package 8 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 Nine fixes included in this update.
10.00.5794 2738350 Cumulative update package 7 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 11 fixes.
