SQL Server 2008 Build List

  • That typically means you specified the instance name as "inactive" when you installed it. It's a name, but shouldn't affect the SQL Server.

It is off topic for here. If you have issues getting this to run (I didn't see a question), please start a thread in the SS2K8 forums.

  • The SQL Server 2008 R2 Build List article "join the discussion" link takes you to this thread.

BTW - when is the expected SP1 release for SQL Server 2008 R2??

  • Haven't heard from anyone about Sp1 for R2 as of yet. I'd expect it soon

  • Hi Steve

The link for CU7 (R2) has an extra http://

    Rgds

    JL

  • Thanks, CU7 is corrected.

  • I appreciate the SQL build lists on SSC.com and I refer to them often. But would it be possible to add the release date of each build, CU, SP? Sometimes it's helpful to know when a patch was released.

    Thanks

  • Yikes, release date is tough. The KB articles sometimes change and their dates may not be accurate.

Builds are for the most part released in order. The CU/SP ones sometimes cross slightly (so CU14 for SP1 might release after SP2), but can I ask what you do with this info?

  • The release date would just be a nice-to-have. I'd like to know when major service packs came out, just for reference. I know that info can be found, but it would convenient to have it on your handy list.

For example, I recently told my management I want to begin the process of installing SQL 2005 SP4. I'd like to be able to tell them the SP has been out for X number of months, or it was released on X date. It would be real easy if I could just grab that date from your list.

  • Fair enough. Getting SP dates is easy. CUs might be harder, but I'll look into adding them.

  • Steve if you hit the join the discussion link on the SQL 2008 R2 post, it brings you to this discussion?

What version (update) are the experts recommending for SQL 2008 R2 currently?

    Thanks,

    David

  • AFAIK, most people are still running with SPs. I haven't seen much positive or negative on the R2 CUs.

    I'll check the R2 link

  • Please check the following link for whole list of fixes.

  • we are running a build that I do not see on your list - now I've got to ask our Sys admin to get us up to SP1!

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1617.0 (X64) Apr 22 2011 19:23:43 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.0 <X64> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) (Hypervisor)

  • Thanks. Definitely bookmarking that list at http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/

  • Another one I've used is: http://www.sqlsecurity.com/FAQs/SQLServerVersionDatabase/tabid/63/Default.aspx
