SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM build 10.50.1600) is the second release of SQL Server 2008 (SP1: 10.0.2521. It is considered to be a minor version upgrade of SQL Server 2008. However, it add more features such as Multi-Server Administration, Data-Tier Applications and high availability and virtualization enhancements and more than SQL Server 2008.

Different. Many things are the same, but there are plenty of additions in R2.
