sql server 2008 and 2005

  • hi,

would i be able to make 2005 work in the same machine that i have installed 2008. because right now i can only use 2008, 2005 opens and connects but when i select a table it gives me the error.

    thanks

  • Yep. You're in trouble now. I still haven't been able to get it fixed. A friend ripped out everything, including all references in the registry, and reinstalled 2005. He's running 2008 on a virtual machine now, as am I.

  • I think you might be in trouble here. Likely you need to rebuild and stick with VMs for testing new versions.

  • Until SQL2008 is officially released I wouldn't let it near any existing boxes.

My approach with the CTPs is to completely wipe the box in between CTP releases.

Even after the launch I am unlikely to put two different versions of SQL on the same box.

  • For some it is working...

If you want to use 2005 and 2008 on the same machine...

First install 2005 then install 2008...don't do it other way around...
