You can get the latest CTP on the Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/content/content.aspx?ContentID=5395)
It is beta software, so be careful where you install it.

Be very careful where you install it. In other words, don't do what I did. I'm going to have to reimage my laptop.
You can also go here to use virtual servers from Microsoft with everything pre-installed. I found that useful back when 2005 was coming out. They've also got this Trusted Platform thing, but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't recommend it.

Ouch. I always use VPCs for this kinda thing. Reinstalling takes far too long.
Got katmai running in a VPC on my laptop. Runs supprisingly well, though I haven't tried to stress it much.

Download Virtual PC from microsoft. It's free. You can then download the virtual drives that Grant linked to and you can have 2008 running in a virtual machine with no risk to the laptop/desktop
