I think there should be a SP3 for SQL 2005. The SQL 2008 version is out, but not everyone is going to jump right to it. SP3 is a good thing for the transition period.

Just be careful with SP3. What's available right now is RC0 - a release candidate. It's still in testing and there may still be bugs. It should not be applied to a production server.

Has anyone heard anything about when SP3 will be released finally?

I had a support incident with MS in July and the PSS guy said a month or so. Officially MS announced SP3 by the end of this calendar year so I was expecting it in this weeks Microsoft Update. It didn't appear so maybe it will be under my tree for Christmas?

I'll see if I can get an explanation from someone for the pull back and when it'll be available again.

It's back. No explanation though. Maybe when the guys in Redmond wake up.

Can we have a new forum entry for Service Packs or SP3 so that we can all have one place to add our comments and results in the installation of the darn thing to our Dev and Prod environments... what do you think Steve?

Keep this in mind !!!!
the KB states:
Note If you are upgrading from SQL Server 2005 SP2 Cumulative Update 10 or from SQL Server 2005 SP2Cumulative Update 11, you must apply a post-SP3 cumulative update after you upgrade to SP3 to obtain all the fixes.
