As with all Microsoft products, SQL server 2005 needed a service pack 3 too. And now its already up and running fine!!

Installed SP3 on a consolidated server last week. No issues.

I haven't really seen any issues reported with SP3. The new system seems to be working well. I expect an SP4 before too much longer.

Now you are just stirring up trouble... 😀

Have there been any significant issues reported with any of the cumulative updates? We are planning to apply SP3 -- CU 5 this week and wondered if there is anything specific to watch out for.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

I have not seen issues reported with any CUs lately, but I would caution you that these are not heavily tested. If you don't have an issue specifically with one of the fixes, don't apply it.
The schedule for SPs is one per year, the first 6 months post RTM. We got SP3 last year, so I expect SP4 this year.

Agreed,
I have never been able to keep up with Microsoft; usually a better idea to leapfrog product releases. SQL 2008 should be your SP3.
thx,

test in QA first
we usually upgrade our QA every CU or every other CU. our distributor and some "semi-production" servers get upgraded as well without QA testing
for everything else we only upgrade once QA tests all of the apps they test. SOme apps don't go through QA and we will send a note to development for a heads up. Great Plains only gets upgraded once we get an OK from the consultant who does a lot of the work on it

SQL Server 2005 SP3 is quite good enough on some of the bugs in SQL 2005.:-P

This could also be due to the fact the log file drive for the SQL Agnet was changed. To fix the issue change the registry to point to the new log file location for the SQL Agnet.

It just isn't available yet!
I can already hear you saying "But it must be coming any day now, right?"
Wrong
There are no current plans for releasing a new service pack for the very simple reason not enough people are asking for it.
So click on this link and vote for another SQL Server service pack! (and rate it also..!!)
