Hi masters,
When i finish to install SP3 for SQL Server 2005 i receive a message that says if i want to enable my user account , because windows vista users have no permissions.
But i install the SP3 on a SQL Server developer edition in XP professional.
I cancel the message and procede....
What is this message for, if i don't even have vista OS on my box?
thank you

If you are not running Vista or Windows Server 2008 - the provisioning option at the end of SP2/SP3 can be safely ignored.
On either of the above OS's - if you skip that option you won't have access to SQL Server through the BUILTIN\Administrators account by default.

Ok, i understud.
What about if i didn't had any SPs installed yet on my SQL Server 2005 developer edition with vista OS? by default the builtin\administrators have sysadmin permissions when you don't have yet any SP installed? and only when i install the SP2 or SP3 this previleges can be removed from the SQL, if i don't accept that option?
If i use the XP OS, the builtin\administrators will always have sysadmin permissions? even if i install the SP2 or SP3 and cancel the message, correct?
And in Windows server 2003 with SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition? will the builtin\administrators by default have sysadmin permissions in SQL, even if i install SP3? or do i need to configure something?
thank you very much,
Pedro

No - If you are on Vista or Windows Server 2008, you have to upgrade to a later service pack. You will get a warning that the RTM version is not compatible and needs to be upgraded.

By default, users in the Administrators group on XP/2003 and below have full sysadmin rights on SQL Server. The login in SQL Server called BUILTIN\Administrators is the windows local Administrators group on that machine.
And in Windows server 2003 with SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition? will the builtin\administrators by default have sysadmin permissions in SQL, even if i install SP3? or do i need to configure something?
See above...

Ok i undestud.
just have a question about one of your anwsers:
"No - If you are on Vista or Windows Server 2008, you have to upgrade to a later service pack. You will get a warning that the RTM version is not compatible and needs to be upgraded."
When you say that i have to upgrade to a a later service pack, this service pack is of SQL Server 2005 correct? not to a latest vista SP? correct?
thank you

Correct - the latest service pack for SQL Server. The RTM version of SQL Server 2005 is not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. You will be warned when trying to install SQL Server on one of these platforms that there are known compatibility issues.

An it don't let my install , or i can install the RTM version and them make the imediate update so that the SQL funcions?
If i undestud, in this OSs i have to install SQL Server with a CD that has already a version of SQL Server with a SP .

If you are installing on Vista or Server 2008 - you will get a warning message that this program has known compatibility issues. You will be given the option to continue anyways - which you will do.
Immediately after installing, you will then apply the service pack you need which will then prompt you at the end to run the User Provisioning tool to add and configure sysadmin users.
