I'm trying to install SQL 2005 on my laptop. I've done this before with the same discs, but this time when I get to area to select components, they are not available.
Can someone please help.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hello
This is a little to less information. Did the system configuration check report any warnings or errors?
Which components are disabled?
Which OS? Which edition of SQL Server?

Background Information
1. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
2. Laptop running Windows XP Profession Version 2002 Service Pack 2
3. 3.25 Gig of Memory
4. 50.7 Gig of Free Space
I had been running SQL 2005 instance on this laptop for many years. Something with the latest Windows Updates corrupted my SSIS installation. What I found on the internet was to resolve the issue to un-install SQL 2005 (big mistake). Now I'm trying to re-install and I'm haveing no luck.
Let me know what other information you need.
Thanks,
Jeff

Configuration Check reported two Warnings.
1. - SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility (Warning)
Messages
SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility
Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this operating system. For details, see 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005' in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.
2. - COM Plus Catalog Requirement (Warning)
Messages
COM Plus Catalog Requirement
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.

Hello Jeff
It is not possible to install an Enterprise Edition on a XP operating system. You can only install an Express, Compact or Developer edition on a client OS.
The only things you can install on XP from an Enterprise CD are:
* Client Connectivity (MADC)
* SQL Server Management Studio
The Enterprise Edition requires an Enterprise or Data-Cener Server Edition as operating system.
See http://www.serverintellect.com/support/sqlserver/sql-enterprise-req.aspx or further information on Microsoft page.

I'm at a loss. I swear I used the same disks to install my previous local instance.
Does SQL Express have a SSIS component?
I'm going to go have a drink now.
Thanks,

Hello Jeff
No, sorry. SSIS are only part of Stadard and Enterprise and Developer Editions.
See comparsion at http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/editions-compare.aspx .
If you only use the SQL Server (and all its components) only for non-productive work you should use Developer Edition. It contains all features of an Enterprise Edition but it runs on XP/Vista 😉 . See http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/developer.aspx .
The pricing is quiet fair http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/pricing.aspx .

Aye BEST thing Microsoft did .. who said they are money hogging big corporate jerks?
:P.
It's just like enterprise edition just can't use it as production 🙂
