When I am trying to instal sql server 2005, I am getting the following error message.
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
The error is (1053) The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Error Number : 29503
Any help would be appreicated?
Also, by looking at the setup file, is there a way to tell what version/edition is this prodcut? Product Vesion says. 9.00.1399.06

Has SQL Server rolled back your installation, or are the SQL Server service accounts still installed - but SQL hasn't started up?
Did you check your error logs (bootstrap logs)?
Also are you installing SQL Server 2005 base or installing SQL Server 2005 w/Service Pack. I would try that one instead there's a glitch in the original SQL Server 2005 sometimes depending on your server. I recieved a similar error. (though reasons could be different)

Yes it rolled back. NO Sql server services.

I am installing the one without SP.

Got it. Once I got the error message, I copied sqlserver.exe and sqlos.dll from other server and repalced that in the local BINN directory and that worked. Although, I am not sure what could have caused this, it works.
