sql server 2005 Developer Edition to SQL Server 2005 Migration

  • Hello

Please send me the sql server 2005 migration steps:

I am planning to change my production sql server 2005 Developer Edition to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise.

This is production environment so please any one sends me the step by step plan it will be great.

  • There isn't "a" plan for that kind of thing. It depends too much on what you're doing, in what environment.

You say you're migrating your production environment from Dev to Enterprise. Does that mean you've been running production databases on Dev edition? Or does it mean you built the database in Dev and are now ready to move it to another server that has Enterprise on it? Or something else?

  • Hello,

Yes, present production environment is running Dev edition so I am changing to Enterprise edition with in few days so please give me any important steps why B'z I have down time only 15min.

  • I actually don't know if you can do an in-place installation, since Dev Edition isn't supposed to be used for production databases.

On the other hand, you'll need your server settings, etc., to all transfer, which means you need to do an in-place installation (or spend a lot longer on transfering everything manually).

You could set up a test server, install Dev on it, copy your databases over, and try an in-place upgrade to Enterprise. Don't test it on your production server, test it on a separate box. If it works, you're fine and can do that on the production server. If not, you may have to call Microsoft and ask about it.

If you were moving from one server to another, it would be easy. Upgrading a server from Dev to Enterpise isn't usual, so might not be that easy.
