Sql Server 2005 Dev Version Installation Issue

  • I am running xp pro, and am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Dev version.

I had Beta on the box, but I completely unstalled it, and I get a message on attempting to install that says the following:

"SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."

Anyone know how to fix ?

    TIA

  • Looks like your uninstall left components behind - you'll need to trawl google, your file system and registry to clean it up.

  • Is .NET Framework 2.0 still installed? If so, you'll need to uninstall it, too. Uninstalling SQL Server 2005 beta I don't believe uninstalls that, too.

  • Since NET 2 may have been installed as part of the Windows update process, I'd say this is a bug in the 2005 installer.
