Since installing Windows 7 the only way we can open a .sql file is to go through the management studio. Any one else experiencing this issue? Not a big deal, but it is kind of annoying.

No but you could always use right click choose program to open the file and choose notepad if that is what you use.

Are you saying it is giving you an error when you try to open a .sql file with another program, or is it just that .sql files are defaulting to SSMS to open? What happens when you open a program such as Notepad and navigate to a .sql file to open?

It will open fine if I open it via notepad or the management console. When I was running vista I was able to just double click the .sql and managment studio would open it. Now it opens management studio but the script does not load.

It is not because of windows 7. It happens to me sometimes with windows server 2003. what I have found is that if you have a query open in ssms, then the double click on a sql file will open it in ssms...try it...

Yes. If I already have management studio open it will open fine. I can live with it but it did not happen on my XP or Vista machine. I also tried it on our server 2003 machine this morning. It opened without having to go through the management studio. There has to be some setting somewhere.
