Sql Server 2005 and Sql server 2008

  • Hello Friends,

My Organization is looking to move from Sql Server 2005 to Sql Server 2008. Initially only a few instance will be upgraded to Sql Server 2008 hence there will be a scenario in which Sql Server 2005 and 2008 will coexist and will interact with each other. Is there any known problem with this sort of setup.

    Thanks

  • What kind of interaction between 2005 and 2008 are you talking about? As far as I know there should not be any problems.

  • Interaction between Sql server 2008 64 bit vs Sql Server 2005 32 bit while creating database connections in SSIS

    Thanks

  • I am sorry. I do not know enough to give you an advice on SSIS. Hopefully someone else can advice you on it

  • The package migration wizard will ask you to make sure you have a backup of your 2005 packages; not a bad idea since once they're migrated to 2008 they can't be used in 2005. Also you'll probably need both SSMS 2005 and 2008 for Integration Services since the 2008 SSMS can't manage a 2005 SSIS installation.

  • Hi,

sql server 2005 also support 64 bit

sql server 2005 is tacking the backup 5 min time

sql server 2008 is tacking the backup 3 min time

and some of the data types can be support 2008 time internal time zone.

security is better compare in 2005.
