SQL Server 2005, 2008 and VS 2008

  • I installed SQL Server 2008, VS 2008 and later installed SQL Server 2005 to support legacy SSIS in BIDS 2005. I do not see BIDS for SQL Server 2005. Any help?

If you are in Vista or Windows 7 you need VS2005 SP1 before you can install VS2005 which is BIDS 2005. If you are not in either operating system then go to the tools folder in SQL Server 2005 setup folder and rerun setup to install VS2005.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I am unable to open SQL Server 2005 database in Start -> Programs. I am thinking of uninstalling SQL Server 2008, VS 2008, SQL Server 2005 and re-installing from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 and VS 2008.

I installed VS2008, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 now Windows 7 complain about VS2005 not compatible but I ignored that. If try all programs in the start menu you should see a separate folder for SQL Server 2005 and everything SQL Server 2005 except VS2005 should be there for you to see.

For Windows 7 ,there is a patch for vs2005 named VS80sp1-KB932232-X86-ENU.exe, a small 29 meg install that fixes whatever Windows 7 was complaining about VS2005 not being compatible.

I installed the Vs Service Pack 1 VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU.exe, 445Meg before installing that patch, and i have no issues with VS2005 now.

I installed both VS2008 and .NET 3.5 SP1 before installing both SQL Server and Windows complains are ignored and I have been using SQL Server 2005 without issues since August when Windows 7 RTM.

Thanks for posting it maybe the OP needs it, the main issue was getting Windows 7 to enable SSRS 2005 in the SQL Server installer because if IIS 7.5 configuration is not in correct IIS 6 compatibility mode Windows 7 makes the installer to disable SSRS 2005.

  • Thanks for the tips. I use XP. I was able to uninstall VS 2005, SQL Server 2005 and then re-install SQL Server 2005. BIDS 2005 then showed up.
