Does anyone know when the next version of SQL Server will be out? I have SQL Server 2000 and was thinking about upgrading to 2004 if there is such a version....

Next version is sql 2005, and it will be out later this fall. There are no other released versions sql 2000 was the last realeased version.
Apparently there is some big announcement on it today at 9:00 pst
check sqlservercentral.com homepage at that time.

You can download the CTP version of SQL 2005 at the moment and the final version is being released in early November.

gee, they waited 5 years for a new release? I guess there is nothing wrong with that if it works. Thank you!

They've just decided that one of my main reasons for upgrading (database mirroring) isn't quite ready and has been put off till next year.
it's a shame that it's not in the final release but i think it's better to get it working properly rather than ship it and have it crash all over the place.
