SQL Server 2000 Training Recommendations

  • I would like to get feedback on any SQL Server courses people here would recommend. I see offerings by numerous companies, and could use some advice on who is good, who to avoid, etc.

I'm looking for courses on performance tuning, sp's, etc....

    Thanks for any advice.

  • Not exactly training, but the Pass conference offers a ton of content for a variety of different subjects/levels. Well worth attending. The nice part is if you pick a session that turns out to be too far above or below where you're at on the learning curve you can just move across the hall to something else.

  • Andy, if one can only attend one conference per year(paying myself, obviously SQL). Which one, preferably a bit more 'advanced'?

    Still Pass?

  • Anyone familiar with Hands On IT Training Nationwide or Learning Tree? Both offer 4 and 5 day courses....

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • I think Pass has the deepest content. VSLive and SQLConnections both have SQL content, but not as much. The offsetting factor is that Pass this year is in Seattle, the other conferences may be closer to you to reduce the overall cost. For those of you who have not been to a conference, you learn a lot, but it's different than sitting in a targetted class for the week. Whether that is good or not is up to you.

  • I am hearing a lot of rave about the AppDev products http://www.appdev.com/rs_entry.asp. We are trying to get our hands on them now ourselves for SQL Server 2000 and .NET.

I would not suggest using the MS Cert classes unless you have experience and knowledge of SQL and just want to spend a lot of money. You can get the same information from lower cost sources such as books, forums and courseware from various vendors.
