SQL server 2000 Stabdard Edition and SAN

  • Hi Guys,

    Can you tell me if the SQL server Standard Edition works with SAN?

    I need to know this or else, we'll have to buy the Enterprise version.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

  • Absolutely yes. I've used SQL 2000 Enterprise and Standard Editions on a SAN for years.

    There is no restriction or limitation regarding the storage SQL Server requires except that the OS is configured to see the storage properly from your source machine.

    Once the SAN is installed, the LUNs are defined, local mappings complete and appropriate Service acount/Domain permissions are granted to access that storage, the storage appears is presented any other storage would be (D:, E:, H:...or whatever you call it).

    Hugh Scott has written several articles on 'SANs for SQL Server'. Here's one;

  • Thanks guys. You're a gem.
