Nimish,
I didn't do anything special to install SS 2000 Dev on Vista Business, just like you I simply ignored the warnings and it finished installation without crashing. I can only offer two details - I was logged in with an Administrator account, and I had previously turned off the User Account Control.
Mihaela,
AFAIK the ultra-lights and minis are coming with Vista pre-installed nowadays, only Dell is still selling XP laptops but they're normal-size laptops. If you must have SS 2000 Dev then I would strongly recommend an XP laptop.
To copy the database itself, you would take a backup from production and restore it to the laptop. Any changes to T-SQL should be saved as scripts, so you could test and then apply the scripts when you return. But how to transfer the application? Depends on what kind of app it is.

Thanks for reply
I Decided to go for SQl 2005 on Vista as ss2000 is in its last phase of life cycle microsoft will remove the support after say 2 or 3 years
so better make a move now

Any ideas how to make the Sync Center go away? I've tried to disable the Sync Center and mobsync.exe, but no luck. This is just a test PC, so I'll try any suggestions the group might offer.
Thanks in advance.
You have to take the ownership of the file mobsync.exe (C:\Windows\System32\mobsync.exe ) first, then add your username with full control permissions and finally rename the mobsync.exe to mobsync_.exe.
I have tried this and it is working fine for me.

Did you look at C:\Windows\sqlstp.log?

Thanks for the reply Will. My 2nd attempt was ok. I was able to install SS2000 in Vista and use it for ASP.NET development.
