SQL Server 2000 Install - trying to generate unattended .ISS file

  • Hi all,

I'm doing a bit of testing.  I've got a Windows XP SP2 laptop (firewall disabled) and I'm trying to install SQL Server 2000 Dev Edtn.  I'm choosing the advanced install so that I can generate the unattended file for future installs of dev edtn (and it's service packs) for our development team.

Problem is, it won't install.  I can install SQL server no problems if I choose NOT to generate the unattended file, but as I need to generate the file, this is no good.  Having checked the C:\Windows\sqlstp.log file, I can't see any real problems.  The last few lines of the file are as follows:

    ...........

    16:02:40 Begin Action ShowDialogsHlpr: 0x8000000

    16:02:40 Begin Action:  DialogShowSdStartCopy

    16:02:41 End Action DialogShowSdStartCopy

    16:02:41 begin ShowDialogsUpdateMask

    16:02:41 nFullMask = 0xbfc003f, nCurrent = 0x8000000, nDirection = 1

    16:02:41 Updated Dialog Mask: 0xbfc003f, Disable Back = 0x1

    16:02:41 Dialog 0x8000000 returned: 1

    16:02:41 End Action ShowDialogsHlpr

    16:02:41 ShowDialogsGetDialog returned: nCurrent=0x0,index=0

    16:02:41 End Action ShowDialogs

    16:02:42 Action CleanUpInstall:

    16:02:42 StatsGenerate returned: 2

    16:02:42 StatsGenerate (0x0,0x21,0xf000000,0x200,1033,303,0x0,0x1,0,0,0

    16:02:42 StatsGenerate -1,Administrator)

    16:02:42 Installation Failed.

I've disabled anti-virus software and any other non-essential service.  Still no joy.  Anyone had similar problems?  I'd be greatful for any info.

    Thanks,

    Dave.

  • Hi,

did it create installation file with your selected options %windir%\Unattended .ISS ? The actual install should not take place, just the file has to be created.

  • Hi Yelena,

Thanks very much for your reply.

Well, how embarassing is that?!  I didn't realise that the install was not meant to run.  The file has indeed been generated.  Good job they're not paying me by the hour!  Thanks again.

    Dave.
